Temporary Census Jobs Boost Payrolls

The U.S. economy added 431,000 new jobs last month, but much of the growth was in the public sector, the Labor Department reported today. In May, the federal government hired 411,000 temporary workers for the Census. Unemployment was 9.7 percent, down from 9.9 percent in April.
